United Way works with our business partners to host virtual educator tours so teachers can learn about the workplace skills that their students will need to be successful.
For Educators:
Teachers who participate in the virtual Educators in Industry tours will not only learn about the specific business, but also share the information they learn with other faculty members at their schools.
During the Virtual Educator Tour, teachers will:
- Explore local businesses via presentations or videos
- Learn about necessary skills to join the local workforce
- Hear firsthand what employers in your area look for in an employee
- Take knowledge back to your classroom for students
After participation, educators (only) can complete a survey to receive a Certificate of Participation.
To Use with Students:
The Virginia Department of Education recognized the virtual educators in industry videos as a virtual job shadow opportunity for high school students. For students to receive that opportunity, teachers must:
- Show the recorded video to the students in the classroom
- Ensure the video shown is DIRECTLY related to the students’ career interest
- Provide opportunity for class discussion following the video
Once videos and discussion are complete, teachers will email a list of participating students to their schools Ignite Coordinator who will request Certificates of Participation from United Way to use as documentation of job shadow completion.
