I'm a UW partner agency; will I continue to be?

All agency partners will receive grant funding in 2023 based on donor designations. United Way of Southwest Virginia will continue to invest in capacity-building initiatives locally to ensure that agency partners receive the resources needed to meet their mission.

How will the grant application process change?

This is still under review and will be directed through recommendations by the transition team and board of directors.

Will there still be an office and presence in the NRV?

Yes, we will continue to staff and operate an office in Christiansburg VA. The new operating hours are 8:30 – 4:30.

I live in the NRV and I need direct assistance with my utility bill, with finding food, or with paying a medical bill. Can you help me?

United Way of Southwest Virginia does not provide direct assistance to individuals. Our initiatives are focused on preventative programs. We recommend you dial 211 or visit 211virginia.org. 211 is a partner of United Way and they will provide you with a list of resources that may be able to help you. If you call 211 and it does not work, they also have an 800 number you can dial: 1-800-230-6977.

Will United Way of New River Valley donations still stay local?

All donations made to United Way of Southwest Virginia stay right here in our region. Each year, roughly 1% of our organization’s revenue is paid to United Way Worldwide and the United Way network. Our elite partners help us cover operating expenses, allowing us to use all gifts to continue our work throughout the region.

Will we still be able to expect the same programs, events, and partnerships as previously done by United Way of the New River Valley?

United Way of Southwest Virginia will continue to support partner agencies of United Way of New River Valley, listed here: UnitedWaySWVA.org/our-work/new-river-valley/partner-agencies

The transition team and board of directors will conduct a community needs assessment to better understand necessary programs, events, and partnerships to create positive, lasting change in the New River Valley.

I/my organization has partnered with UW NRV in the past. Will there be opportunities to partner more forward?

Yes, you contact our development department to plan a workplace giving campaign, learn about sponsorship/exhibition opportunities, and get involved with United Way of Southwest Virginia’s events.

Do you have tasks for volunteers on site? Who do I contact about this?

Sometimes. Please send volunteer inquiries to volunteer@unitedwayswva.org

Do we need to refer to this as the United Way of New River Valley or the United Way of Southwest Virginia?

This is the New River Valley office of United Way of Southwest Virginia.

United Way of New River Valley used to run a food bank. Do you still?

After careful consideration of the existing food banks in the New River Valley, United Way decided to sunset ours once our food supply was exhausted.
