Alice Schlichting

What is your role at UWSWVA and how long have you been a part of the team?

I am the Administrative Assistant for the Childhood Success department. I have been in this role since January of 2022.

What is your favorite part of your job?

My favorite part of my job is helping someone solve a problem, helping with something they don’t know how to do, or just helping when they are short on time and need assistance.

What does a typical day look like in your position?

A typical day in my position is starting my day with a bunch of things on my to-do list but getting none of them done because other things come up that need more immediate attention. No day is the same, but I love it.

What is your personal motivation?

Working for an organization that I feel is making a positive impact.

Favorite event/program at UWSWVA?

I have not had the chance to attend many events since being here. So far, my favorite has definitely been the Impact Awards. I loved hearing all of the stories of those who received an award and helping everyone find their seats.

What are some of your favorite hobbies?

I love going to concerts and music festivals, playing board games with my husband and friends, yoga, trying new (vegan/vegetarian) restaurants, and just lounging around with my husband and our “children” Niki and Blake (Yes they have fur).

What is something that is fun and unique about you? Or tell me one thing about yourself that our team doesn’t know about you.

My team probably already knows more about me than they wanted to because I don’t know how to keep things to myself. Especially Taylor Rose and Crystal Rasnake. Sorry guys.

Tell me about your favorite day at work, in your current position, that you’ve ever had.

The day we went to Hurley, VA to clean up from the flood. It is very humbling to see that kind of damage in person. And I really enjoyed getting out and spending time with coworkers I may not work directly with on a daily basis.

Do you have a quote or mantra that you always look to that is meaningful to your work here at UWSWVA?

Whenever someone asks me a question that I do not have the answer to, my go to is, “I don’t know I just work here” and then we figure it out anyway.

What was your very first job and how do you use a lesson you learned in that job still today?

My first job was for a manufacturing company when I was 17. I learned how to be flexible, take on multiple roles when I needed to and that the best way to learn is to try.
