Educational Attainment

Why is this important? Higher education, especially completion of a bachelor’s degree or more, generally enhances a person’s employment prospects and increases his or her earning potential. Having a highly educated and skilled workforce is essential for competing in a changing economy that is increasingly knowledge-based.

This dashboard shows the percentage of the population who have earned a high school diploma or higher, as well as a bachelor’s degree or higher for each county and city. Use the check-boxes on the right to filter your search.

Median Earnings by Educational Attainment

Why is this important? An average is just one measure of central tendency for any set of data. Another measure is the median. For wage data, the median wage (or net compensation) is the wage “in the middle.” That is, half of the workers earned below this level.

Across the nation, individuals with a bachelor’s degree earn about twice as much as those with a high school diploma or equivalent.
